On July 6th, DC Finance, a global family office and high net worth individual community, hosted a webinar, “The World of Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies,”that included several speakers and an audience from all over the world. In this brief recap, I am going to highlight some of the speakers that most stood out to me:
The first speaker and panel that I found fascinating was one led by Diana Adachi, Partner, True North Impact, along with Susanne Somerville, CEO, Chronicled and Lucas Perez, Co-founder of Health My Project. Ms. Adachi along with her peers discussed the applicability of blockchain technology to the healthcare industry. The industry is worth around $2 billion today, according to Diana Adachi, and is projected to be $3.5 billion by 2026. The panel speakers stated the significance of blockchain technology in addressing issues within the healthcare industry, including data breaches. Blockchain has the potential to revolutionize the healthcare sector as it would allow for data to be stored, verified, immutable, transparent, and secure. Its applicability is far reaching and is enabling ample capabilities.
“I think Ethereum is going to continue to rally…I am extremely bullish” — Mike McGlone, Senior Commodity Strategist, Bloomberg Intelligence.
The second speaker that I want to address is Miami mayor Suarez. Mayor Suarez is one of the most futuristic, opportunistic, and innovative mayors the city has ever seen. Suarez believes in an experiential Miami, where “the most precious commodity is not money anymore, but rather is time.” Through an experiential Miami, mayor Suarez is bringing the best of the world’s minds to Miami. He is doing everything to continue the migration to Miami, via keeping taxes low and supporting businesses relocating there. He states that “Miami has a different attitude” and he is determined to turn Miami into a tech hub with opportunities for all. In the webinar, Suarez stated “every company is a tech company; or at least they should be or else they are in trouble.” He says that this “movement” is evidently going to lead the city to prosperity and experiences for its residents. For example, he is planning to allow residents to pay taxes and rent in cryptocurrency. Suarez is one of the most innovative mayors out there and his actions speak louder than political words. One last interesting piece he mentioned in his panel was his city based initiative to build a technology-based and focused charter school. Although it is very early in the process, this school would foster a technology class that could have massive potential to contribute to Miami’s economy.
The DC Finance webinar was one to remember for the various speakers that were represented on the panel. From this webinar, it is evident that blockchain and cryptocurrencies offer ample opportunities across industries and sectors.. More to come; but, until then #ToTheMoon!
